Getting a flat is a rite of passage. Don’t let it ruin your day—here is the Jake’s Bikes method for a quick swap.
Tools Needed:
Spare tube
Two tire levers
Portable pump or $CO_2$ inflator
The Process:
Shift to the Smallest Cog: (Rear wheel only) This makes removal and installation much easier.
Open the Brake: If you have rim brakes, flip the quick-release lever on the caliper.
Leverage: Insert one tire lever under the tire bead and hook it to a spoke. Use the second lever to slide around the rim until the tire pops off.
The "Sweep": Once the old tube is out, carefully run your finger along the inside of the tire to find the thorn or glass that caused the flat.
Re-install: Put a tiny bit of air in the new tube to give it shape, tuck it into the tire, and roll the tire bead back onto the rim using your thumbs.
